  5. Kapton Tape PLA tested and FAILS pr 5 Kapton Tape Glue Stick

This is Part 5 of my testing Kapton Tape with PLA filament printing, using Glue Stick on Kapton Tape and it FAILS with PLA printed parts lifting from the build plate.

Notes: I tried the same print with the heated bed temperature set to 70° C and then set to 50° C. At 50° C it did stay on the build plate, (shown at the end of this video), and it finish the print without lifting off the print bed, (this indicates a lower heated bed temperature is more beneficial), but I feed this is too unreliable to use this method all the time.

Auto Leveling probes the print bed, (G29 after G28 Home), but the Z Axis does not level/tram, (move up or down as the print bed moves in the X or Y plane), during the print to allow for any out of level print bed.

Retractions in Cura set at 4.5mm at 40mm/s, this a high setting for the E3D v6 Hot end I use. Retractions of 5mm or more are troublesome as they pull hot filament up into the cold areas of the hotend where they can freeze, adhere and jam.

    Noise during this print:-

AMD Heat sink with 80mm fan to cool down the buck convertor of 24 Volts PSU supply to 12 Volts for the RAMPS 1.4, LED ‘s and fans. This is too loud. I plan to change the AMD CPU heat sink fan supplied with a Gelid Solutions Silent Quiet Case Fan this should be much quieter. I may get a separate 12 Volt PSU instead

  26. Quick Release Belt Drive Feeding. Putting parts together need tweaks.

  27. Silent 8 Fan quieter Buck Convertor fan for my 3D printer

When trying to cut down the heat caused by the 24 Volt to 12 Volt
Buck Convertor I used an AMD CPU Heatsink and fan. This reduces
heat but results in a much louder system so I exchange this noisy
AMD CPU fan for a Silent 8 Fan, (80mm).

I use a 24 Volt PSU to power a 24 Volt, 300 Watt Heat Pad
via a Solid State Relay that is controlled by the RAMPS 1.4.

From the same 24 Volt power supply I use a 24 Volt to 12 Volt
Buck Convertor to power : the RAMPS 1.4,
LED lighting as well as some fans.

The 24 Volt to 12 Volt Buck Convertor works well but gets hot in use.

  28. Pause Testing. I wanted to test the “Pause” functions on my 3D Printer.

I wanted to test the “Pause” functions on my 3D Printer.

Pause Testing. I wanted to test the “Pause” functions on my 3D Printer.

So I made this (light weight in plastic use and time), simple “stl” file.

All it is is a tube, 25mm height, with some small parts at 5mm heights stinking out to indicate where Pause is selected.

Then using Cura I asked for the “Pause at height” plugin to pause at a Z height, (and also move the nozzle for easier access/filament changing etc), in my case 5mm and started to print.

This worked very well as I expected.

Note: the headbed and the nozzle temperatures stay on while Paused.

    After Pause.

Clicking the knob on the LCD12864 Full Graphic Smart Controller moved the nozzle back to where the Pause started and continued the print without any issues.

Then I tried using the LCD12864 Full Graphic Smart Controller Pause option.

    This worked BUT:-

    a) The nozzle stayed where it was Paused at. This caused a blob of plastic to be oozed onto the part at this position.
    b) It takes a bit of time to select the Pause option on the LCD12864 Full Graphic Smart Controller and printing continues until the Pause is actually selected. This means that the Pause may be harder to control for the actual position of the height, etc..

    After Pause.

Selecting Resume on the LCD12864 Full Graphic Smart Controller started and continued the print form the unmoved nozzle position.

Note: the headbed and the nozzle temperatures stay on while Paused.
